Public Safety Officers’ Benefits Enhancement Act of 2026

This Act may be cited as the “Public Safety Officers’ Benefits Enhancement Act of 2026”.

Section 1201(k) of title I of the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 (34 U.S.C. 10281(k)) is amended—

(1) in the matter following paragraph (3), by striking “or was directly and proximately caused by something other than the mere presence of cardiovascular-disease risk factors”;

(2) by striking paragraph (3);

(3) in paragraph (2)(C)—

(A) by striking “24 hours” and inserting “72 hours”; and

(B) by striking “; and” at the end and inserting “,”; and

(4) in paragraph (1)(B), by striking the semicolon at the end and inserting “; and”.

The amendments made by this Act shall apply in the case of any claim for benefits that is pending or filed on or after the date of enactment of this Act.
